A vibrant photograph depicts Michał Kowalczys painting his face with his finger. His face is covered in white paint, with red lipstick on his lips and blue paint around his eyes. The makeup creates a clown-like appearance.

Michał Kowalczys – a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and a current student at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design  in Wroclaw. His artistic practice explores issues related to personal identity and attempts to translate personal experiences into visual language. He is fascinated by metaphors that emerge from introspection and by positioning them in relation to established cultural codes. Finding common denominators between opposing meanings serves as a source of inspiration for his creative work, which often begins with poetry. Kowalczys’ works have been showcased at festivals such as “Vor/Wiosna” at the Slaturhusid Art Center in Iceland (2021), “Kick Off Perfo” at the Ul Gallery in Gdańsk (2021, 2023), and Gdynia Design Days 2023. He was also selected as one of the participants in the “Głęboka Woda 2022” [Deep water] project organised by the Gdańsk City Gallery.
